Before and After SVA: Sal Romano on the Transition from Student to Professional

As a part of our series exploring what recent graduates are up to, we recently caught up with Sal Romano (BFA 2016 Advertising), who talked about a key piece of advice he received at SVA, his transition from student to creative professional and more.
What have you been up to since graduation?
I've been working full time as a creative doing both art and copy at Grey Global Group. I'm working on Papa John's, the United Nations and some new business pitches.
Were you able to network through your SVA connections to help you get work?
I actually interned with my fellow student, Stephen Kingslow (BFA 2016 Advertising), and now we work together as partners.
Was there a piece of advice a teacher gave you about the working world that was particularly helpful?
Frank Anselmo always stressed sticking to strategy.
What has surprised you about the student-to-working professional transition, or what has been a challenge?It's much more fast-paced with quicker timelines. And it's much easier to sell an idea to a teacher as opposed to a chain of creative directors and then ultimately to a client. But it's fun!
