MFA Photography, Video, and Related Media presents a visiting artist lecture and discussion with distinguished alumnus Pacifico Silano, as part of its Scheimpflug Lecture Series 30th anniversary programming. RSVP here.

Silano will discuss the range of his work including the re-interpretation of a multitude of sourced pornographic images into a series of poignant and sensitive visual narratives. Silano's work challenges the viewer to rethink the way we look at photographs, both visually and conceptually. With his latest solo exhibitions, "After Silence" (Stellar Projects, NYC) and "John John" (Rubber Factory, NYC) we are prompted to compare the salaciousness of a pornographic magazine to a tabloid spread of American royalty. The result is an examination of iconography, a multi-layered visual history of the LGBTQ community, as well as a societal fascination with the mass-produced printed image.

Pacifico Silano is a lens-based artist whose work is an exploration of print culture, the circulation of imagery and LGBTQ identity. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. His work has been exhibited in group shows, including at the Bronx Museum; Tacoma Art Museum; Oude Kerk, Amsterdam; and ClampArt, New York City. He has had solo shows at ClampArt, New York City and Baxter ST@CCNY.
