I believe American poet Charles Olson — the last rector of the legendary Black Mountain College — said it best: “What does not change / is the will to change.” Even in the most stable institutions, nothing can or should remain static for long. Looking out from SVA’s downtown New York home, at a time of remarkable burgeoning possibility in art and design, it’s hard to think about anything but change.
Certain things always change in the life of a college. We expect our students to change each year. Our curriculum breathes and reaches into fertile new areas which did not exist a year or two ago. A changing curriculum, of course, requires additional faculty and updated facilities. And so on . . .
All of which makes keeping track of those changes—and of those things that do not change (or at least have not as yet)—essential work.
So welcome to the Academic Affairs section of the SVA site. I hope you find the information provided here useful.
