Students planning to attend SVA have numerous choices when it comes to their collegiate residential experience.

How do I apply for housing?

To secure SVA housing, please submit a $400 nonrefundable Housing Placement Fee using the Undergraduate Enrollment Fee and Housing Deposit Form to the Office of Admissions.   After you have paid the fees, Residence Life will send an email to your SVA email address inviting you to complete the online housing application.  These invitations are sent on a weekly basis.

Students will also be asked about their living preferences, such as sleeping habits, cleanliness, and social levels.  Our system uses the responses to these questions along with student preferences to help match roommates and suitemates.

Students will be asked to indicate their room type preferences including single, small single, double, and small double.  These preferences are taken into consideration along with availability and the student profile during the placement process.  As placements are made based on availability, it is not always possible to accommodate student’s top choices.

We encourage students to pay their $400 Housing Placement Fee prior to May 1, to ensure housing for the upcoming academic year.

Housing Placement Fees

All incoming students intending to live in SVA housing are required to pay a $400 Housing Placement fee.

The $400 Housing Placement Fee is an annual, non-refundable fee that students are required to pay when signing up for housing, and every year that they renewing housing.  This administrative fee is not refundable, even upon cancellation.

How is my roommate/suitemate selected?

During the online housing application, students will be asked about their living preferences, such as sleeping habits, cleanliness, social lifestyle, etc.  If you know another incoming student that you'd like to live with, you may request each other on your housing application.

Are your residence halls safe?

Our residence halls have Security Officers monitoring the building entrances 24-hours a day, as well as features such as security cameras in common areas.  We remind students that although they live in a community of other artists and peers, it is important to be attentive to personal safety.  Students should lock their room doors, and carry their keys with them at all times.  During orientation, students may attend programs to learn about navigating the city safely.

How do I check in?

Incoming students can check into their residence hall during the last weekend in August.  Specific details regarding assigned check in times will be included in the housing assignment email that residents receive in June.  Earlier check in dates and times are not permitted.
