Information regarding issues with your FSA ID
An FSA ID is comprised of a username and password and can be used to login to certain Federal Student Aid websites, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) at www.fafsa.ed.gov , Direct Student Loans at www.studentloans.gov and the National Student Loan Data System at www.nslds.ed.gov .
The security of your FSA ID is important. Your FSA ID can be used to:
- Electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents,
- Access your personal records, and
- Make binding legal obligations.
If you are a parent and need to electronically sign your child’s FAFSA, you need your own FSA ID. If you have more than one child attending college, you can use the same FSA ID to sign their applications.
Individuals who have lost access to their FSA ID must contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) by phone or Web chat (contact information is provided below). Once FSAIC has confirmed that access has been lost, the issue will be escalated to an FSA ID specialist. The process to reset an FSA ID can take several days as the student will need to submit a copy of a government-issued photo ID.
There are two important facts about FSA ID creation. First, only the FSA ID owner (student) should create the FSA ID. When an account is created by someone else like a parent, the chances that the FSA ID owner will correctly remember the password or the answers to the challenge questions is substantially reduced.
Second, including an e-mail address on the FSA ID account is highly recommended. If a user forgets their username or password, they can request that a secure code be e-mailed to them to allow them to reset their username or password. Without an e-mail address, the only resolution is to successfully answer the challenge questions.

Students, parents, and borrowers who require additional assistance with their FSA ID should contact FSAIC at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Federal Student Aid acknowledges that customers continue to experience longer-than-normal wait times to reach a FSAIC customer service representative. They are working to reduce this wait time and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Information on Federally Mandated Entrance Interviews
The federally mandated entrance interviews are required for all students receiving a Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Stafford Loan or a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan for the first time at SVA. If a student has received a Stafford Loan at a previous institution, they do not need to attend the entrance interview here at SVA.
This does not apply to a Federal Perkins Loan, as all students awarded this loan must attend an entrance interview. Students must attend an entrance interview before any loan proceeds may be received. The entrance interview is an information session explaining the student’s rights and responsibilities regarding these loan programs.
For the 2016 Fall semester our entrance interview sessions will be held in Room 311 of the 209 East 23 Street building. Entrance Counseling sessions are scheduled as follows:
Tuesdays: 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Thursdays: 10:00 - 11:50 a.m.
