Rob Roth, Blondie’s creative director, moderates. Stein will sign copies of his book following the discussion.

Primarily working in design and narrative, Wimberly is also an accomplished cartoonist including works for DC/Vertigo, Nike, and Marvel, and more recently a cartoon essay “Lighten Up” for The Nib on Medium. His critically-acclaimed graphic novel Prince of Cats is being made into a live action film by Legendary Entertainment, starring Lakeith Stanfield.

BLUE SKY RECRUITING INFO SESSION
Representatives from Blue Sky will present on how to apply for internships at their studio, what they look for in candidates, and how to best prepare your reel. Students will also hear from artists at the studio about their own career paths and roles at Blue Sky. Open only to SVA students, alumni, faculty and staff.

CROWDFUNDING LAB INFORMATION SESSION
If you are planning to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a project in early 2018, consider applying to SVA’s 2017-2018 Crowdfunding Lab. This information session will give you an overview of the application and selection process, as well as discuss how the lab will be structured with anticipated timelines and deadlines to get your project up and running.
FULBRIGHT U.S. STUDENT PROGRAM INFO SESSION
Learn about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, a fully-funded year-long grant to travel abroad and immerse yourself in another culture and country while working on an art or art history project of your own design. SVA's Fulbright Program Advisor, Patty Romeu and IIE/Fulbright Program Officer, Alexa Rowland will provide details on the grant program, eligibility and requirements, how to apply, and important tips on creating a strong application.
FREELANCE BASICS
This workshop will provide an overview of the crucial elements of successful freelancing. Get a jumpstart on your first freelancing gig and learn how to define your services, negotiate fees and payment schedules, use your online presence to get the work you want, as well as gain tips for marketing and managing your business. Resources and general information will be shared that is relevant to all disciplines. Open to juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent alumni.

RESUME BASICS
This workshop will focus on resume basics for students who may have limited work experience when applying for internships. Come learn about resume essentials, how to summarize your skill set, what kind of non-work experience it could be useful to include and how to make a strong first impression on paper. If this will be your first career fair, this workshop is a must! Open to current SVA students only.
THE STUDIO VISIT: MAKING PROFESSIONAL CONNECTIONS
Studio visits are the most important way for artists to gain new opportunities and connections. Learn how to ask for studio visits, how to make the most of them, tips on best practices, and how to properly follow up.
TAX STRATEGIES FOR ARTISTS
Topics will include choice of business entity (corporation, LLC, sole proprietorship), worker classification (employee vs. independent contractor), tax filing requirements, tax deductions, expense deductions for home office and equipment purchases, IRS record keeping requirements, sales tax considerations relating to sales of art work and purchases of art supplies, so-called ‘hobby loss rules’ and deductions for retirement plan contributions.
