Faculty Updates

What have SVACE faculty members been up to? We have exciting updates from course instructors Marsha Trattner, Elise Engler, and Itziar Barrio!

Marsha Trattner, Fine Arts faculty member, was featured on NY1. Viewers get a glimpse of her class, their projects, and her studio workshop in Red Hook, Brooklyn - a new location after Hurricane Sandy flooded the previous space. One student says, “I love coming here after work and letting out some of my frustrations...taking it out on the iron.” See the feature here.

Elise Engler will give an artist talk, “A Year on Broadway with Elise Engler,” where she will discuss her year-long project of drawing on-site every block of Broadway in Manhattan. This project has been featured in The New Yorker and CBS Sunday Morning. We also interviewed Elise about her current project, First Radio Headlines Heard of the Day.

Itziar Barrio has opened a solo exhibition, BY ALL MEANS, now on view at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao, Spain. Curated by Johanna Burton of The New Museum, this show is the artist’s first major survey that brings together her work over the last decade. Burton writes of Barrio: "To see the artist’s work is often to see only part of it, or, put another way, to see it as it unfolds."
