Faculty Updates

What have SVACE faculty members been up to? We have exciting updates from course instructors Jonathan David Smyth, Felipe Galindo, Steve Brodner, and John Parks.

Jonathan David Smyth is releasing a new monograph, Just One More. The book will be published by BD Studios and distributed through Amazon. Just One More collects Smyth’s collection of self-portraits, made over five years, most from New York City and Northern Ireland. The book also includes an essay by Michelle Dunn Marsh and a conversation with photographer Dana Stirling. Read more about it here.

Smyth also was interviewed for BBC Radio about the book and some older work. You can listen to the interview here (beginning at 19:11), or a shorter clip here.

Join Jonathan David Smyth for the Book Launch Event at Jefferson Market Library, NYC on November 2, 2017.

Felipe Galindo contributed an illustration to The Nation Magazine for its series, OppArt. Touted as "Artistic Dispatches from the Frontlines of Resistance," the series is curated by Andrea Arroyo, Steve Brodner, and Peter Kuper. Galindo's illustration sums up the pleas for assistance to Puerto Rico.

Steve Brodner shared artwork in addition to co-curating the project. And SVA Residenices alum Iviva Olenick also contributed, so don't miss her hand-stitched flag artwork.

John Parks has a painting featured on the cover of the Lincoln Center Theater Review. His painting, Stock Exchange, is published in conjunction with Ayad Akhtar’s new play, Junk.
