Faculty Updates

What have SVACE faculty members been up to? We have exciting updates from course instructors Jade Doskow, Tristan Elwell, and Lorenzo Triburgo!

Jade Doskow launches her solo exhibition, “Lost Utopias,” at Front Room Gallery! Jade’s decade-long photographic series documents the remaining architecture of international World’s Fairs. Many of her photos are included in a recent book published by Black Dog, and her project has been featured by Dezeen, It’s Nice That, and many other blogs. Jade is scheduled to teach two upcoming courses in the Photography department.

Tristan Elwell is featured in the exhibition, Of Scales and Feathers, at Spoke Art. Exhibition curator Travis Louie writes, “There is a universal connection that we all have to these outer layers…and there is an obvious biological bridge between scales and feathers. I was curious what images would come to mind when this theme was tasked to the artists. Hence, Tristan’s winged serpent is a perfect fit for the theme. Tristan teaches the upcoming summer course, “Crash Course for Artists, Illustrators, and Cartoonists.”

Fans in the Bay Area may have spotted Tristan’s portrait of Emma Gonzalez projected on a few landmarks, like the Cal Berkeley Art Museum.

Lorenzo Triburgo’s Policing Gender project is the basis for Pete Brook’s essay and interview, "The LGBTQ Voices Propelling Prison Abolition: In Conversation with Lorenzo Triburgo” at Prison Photography. Pete writes, "While transgender people are winning more and more hard-fought recognition in open society, prisons occupy the other end of the spectrum—closed, rigid systems unable to safely house the majority of prisoners and certainly unprepared and, more often, patently unwilling to recognize prisoners with gender dysphoria and their specific needs.“

Lorenzo teaches the upcoming, online course, #GenderSexPhoto.
