I wanted to shift my work outside of its normal context, and New York was the perfect place for that.

Country of origin: Texas, USA

In which Residency Program(s) did you participate?
Painting and Mixed Media, 2013

What led you to participate in the Summer Residency Program?
I wanted to shift my work outside of its normal context, and New York was the perfect place for that.

What was the best part of your experience at SVA?
I get a profound satisfaction from meeting artists. I was able to meet so many while in New York and they were from all over the world.

How did the Residency Program contribute to your development as a professional artist, designer, etc?
There were many valuable lessons and several opportunities that came from the residency: I sold work, I was offered a solo exhibition in New York, and I was invited to travel to Asia.

What's going on in your studio now?
I am always trying to find valuable pivots within the idea of painting. To that end, I have been making traps for collectors, garments, and drones that can work within the notion of painting.
