The residency gave me time at a point in my emerging career when I really needed reflection. It gave me insight and exposure to work that I had not previously had a relationship to.

Country of origin: United States

In which Residency Program(s) did you participate?
Painting and Mixed Media, 2010

What led you to participate in the Summer Residency Program?
Word of mouth, and the suggestion of a graduate school professor.

What was the best part of your experience at SVA?
There were many wonderful things about the program, however being able to have a studio in the heart of Manhattan was above and beyond the best.

How did the Residency Program contribute to your development as a professional artist?
The residency gave me time at a point in my emerging career when I really needed reflection. It gave me insight and exposure to work that I had not previously had a relationship to. It also gave me a sense of confidence and affirmation.

What's going on in your studio now?
Currently I am working through a post studio practice, reliant on site-specific installation works. I find myself in a variety of exhibition locations and respond to the space with creative interventions.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experiences in the program or after?
I fell in love with another esteemed resident during my stay, and we just recently got married. I sure wasn't expecting that sort of thing when I signed up.
