Jay Sanders's profile rose considerably when he and Elizabeth Sussman, a longtime curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, organized the highly praised 2012 Whitney Biennial. Now Mr. Sanders, a former art dealer and independent curator, has been named a full-time curator at the Whitney.

\r\n

His specialty is the performing arts, and one of the recent Biennial’s most distinctive elements was the transformation of the museum’s fourth floor into an open space dedicated to performances.
