The SVA alumni community in the Sunshine State is about to get a lot bigger, as artists, curators, collectors and gallerists from around the world gather for Art Basel Miami Beach and satellite fairs next week. The College will also show works by nine recent graduates at the inaugural Miami Project, a modern and contemporary fair located in the Wynwood design district. Organized with support from the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) North Miami, the event boasts an international lineup of 65 galleries selected based on the strength and relevance of their programs.
This year’s participating artists represent a range of media and sensibilities, as well as four different programs at SVA: Ryan Brady (BFA 2012 Visual and Critical Studies), Jeremy August Haik (MFA 2012 Photography, Video and Related Media), Eli Halpern (MFA 2012 Fine Arts), Eric Mistretta (MFA 2012 Fine Arts), Augustus Nazzaro (MFA 2012 Fine Arts, BFA 2007 Fine Arts), Peter Neu (MFA 2012 Fine Arts), Lorelei Ramirez (BFA 2012 Fine Arts), Pacifico Silano (MFA 2012 Photography, Video and Related Media) and Rebecca Ward (MFA 2012 Fine Arts). Ramirez will present an interactive performance piece at the Miami Project preview, Tuesday, December 4, 5:30 – 10pm.
SVA has had an official presence in Miami for over 5 years, partnering with WPS1 at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2006 for a live broadcast during the fair, and exhibiting at Aqua Art Miami from 2007 – 2012.
Although the works are available for purchase, unlike commercial galleries, SVA does not collect a commission on sales, so all proceeds go directly to the artist.
Look for SVA/Visual Arts Gallery at booth 913. The Miami Project runs from Tuesday, December 4 through Sunday, December 9 at NE 1st Avenue and NE 29th Street. Visit miami-project.com for hours and admission.
