by Ken Switzer
The art director of The New York Times Book Review recently released his picks for the “Best Book Covers of 2016” and of the 12 selected, five of them were designed by members of the SVA community: BFA Design faculty members John Gall, Paul Sahre and Rachel Willey (BFA 2012 Graphic Design), and alumni Janet Hansen (BFA 2007 Graphic Design) and Adalis Martinez (BFA 2013 Design). Check out their book covers below.
This summer, SVA ran "Cover Stories," a series featuring authors and designers talking about their book covers. In addition to Janet Hansen's cover for Rebecca Schiff's The Bed Moved, the series included past designs by Hansen (Steven Millhauser's Voices in the Night), Martinez (Christian Kracht's Imperium) and Willey (Alex Mar's Witches of America), all of which were included on the Times' "Best Book Covers of 2015" list.
Congratulations to the award-winning alumni and faculty.
