This Thursday, the International Center of Photography is hosting a signing to celebrate the release of Death Takes a Holiday (J & L Books), the latest book by SVA alumnus Darin Mickey (BFA 1998 Photography), who also teaches at the center. From 2014 through mid-2015, Mickey visited and photographed several independent record shops in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In its 64 pages, Death Takes a Holiday takes a look at the people, possessions and gathering spaces of a once-thriving subculture on the wane—recent surge in vinyl sales notwithstanding—and its mix of matter-of-fact and melancholy continues in the vein of Mickey's first book, a photo-series on his father's working life called Stuff I Gotta Remember Not to Forget (J & L Books, 2007).
