School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Chrysalis,” an exhibition of multimedia work by eight SVA students selected by a jury of their peers. The exhibition will be on view Friday, May 10, through Thursday, May 23, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 141 West 21st Street, New York City.

The artists featured in “Chrysalis” visually articulate transitions between one state of being and another through drawing, illustration, painting and sculpture. Exploring the exciting potential or devastating implications of change, the works on view consider these moments as opportunities for inflection. Topics covered include cultural expectations of individuals, political propaganda, psychology and the body as evidence of metamorphosis. These thresholds are a time of discovery, but such developments always hold a cost to those involved. This group exhibition surveys contemporary humanistic issues while asserting that outcomes should not overshadow the process of becoming.

Artists featured in this exhibition are Nandinie Andlay, Lulu Chang, Naomie Desilier, Mingyi Gan, Lily Hyon, Mina Kim, Yong Eun Kwon, and Dana Leon.

Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists and exhibition proposals are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.

The SVA Flatiron Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am–6:00pm.
