Curated by MFA Photography, Video and Related Media faculty member Michelle Leftheris, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” celebrates the achievements and diverse approaches to video within the SVA community, featuring recent videos by nine distinguished alumni of the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department and one new faculty member, Liz Magic Laser. Participants and works include:
IVAN CORTAZAR, Tesoros (20 minutes)
A fictional short film about platonic love, played by the filmmaker’s grandparents, juxtaposed to a documentary of their real lives together
CATHRYNE CZUBECK, ON (6 minutes)
Sneak-preview of a film about New York City-based, Tokyo-born multimedia artist ON Megumi Akiyoshi, who challenges casual passersby to skip a beat in their everyday activities.
MADELINE DJEREJIAN, The Happy Man...or so I have heard myself called (8 minutes)
A silent video of text and image that sets the personal reflections of French author François Mauriac (1885-1970) against details from the painting ‘Wolf and Fox Hunt’ by Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640), currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
LIZ MAGIC LASER, I Feel Your Pain (excerpt) (9 minutes)
A continuous live-feed film, edited in real time by Laser, in which actors perform scenes of a romantic relationship using dialogue adapted from interviews with political figures such as Glenn Beck, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama and John Boehner.
ERICA MAGREY, Tag Sale Cosmology (10 minutes)
An interactive video database that explores the latent potential of discarded and decorative objects. For this screening, the artist will perform the part of the moderator, changing the channel at the audience’s request.
SHARON A. MOONEY, The Popcorn Kid (13 minutes)
Within the confines of a booth, Rebecca discusses its beauty, nightmares, and future at the historic Music Box Theater.
GRACIE NESIN, Christmas Bender 2006
This diaristic, genre-bending film was created for an original song written by the filmmaker. It follows her recollections, as a young girl, of her time in a southern prep school.

A music video for Ponytail's "Celebrate The Body Electric (It Came From An Angel)" containing footage from eleven different shoots.
JORDAN STONE, 666 Smokerise Lane (5 minutes)
A radically re-imagined history of the filmmaker’s estranged and mostly deceased family constructed through a montage of family slides and home movies.
BO WANG, China Concerto (excerpt) (7 minutes)
An observational essay about images, representations and performances in China's contemporary spectacles. Shot mostly in Chongqing during the peak of Bo Xilai's red campaign in 2010 and 2011, it reveals aspects of Communist totalitarianism concealed beneath the veneer of capitalism.
