School of Visual Arts presents “Origin Story,” an exhibition of mixed media by BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects students. Curated by the program’s senior systems administrator, Joseph Mulvanerty and director of operations, Brian Frey, the exhibition will be on view from Saturday, April 13, through Thursday, May 9, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.

“Origin Story” traces ideas back to their beginnings. The journey begins with dreams, moves to pencil on paper and finally ends with pixels on a screen. The exhibition follows the program’s fourth-year students from idea conception to finished work. In a time when computers and technology are so common that they become background, “Origin Story” seeks to show the classical artistic techniques behind the computer art. Mood boards, concept art, sculptures and costumes all show the paths these stories have taken from the physical to the digital.

BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects students at SVA have access to the most advanced digital applications and are guided by faculty at the top of their fields to develop both the personal and professional capabilities expected in the top tiers of highly competitive creative industries. Using a production-based curriculum, students create portfolios and gain the experience necessary to launch them into professional careers of their own design or at many of the top digital agencies, visual effects and animation houses and production studios around the world, working in the fields of commercial film, television and video game production.
