School of Visual Arts presents “Obsessorize / Dashing Through New York,” an exhibition of three-dimensional work by BFA Design students. Curated by 3D Design Chair Kevin O'Callaghan (BFA 1980 Media Arts), the exhibition will be on view from Saturday, February 16, through Saturday, March 9, at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street.

Last fall, O’Callaghan’s students created imaginative accessories for “Obsessorize,” an exhibition produced in collaboration with the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District. The students’ work was inspired by iconic accessories of past decades, resulting in shoes and bags made out of items like antique teapots, clocks, milk and cookies, pennies, and much more. The designs were on view along 29 blocks of Madison Avenue; this was the fifth time that SVA and Madison Avenue BID have together mounted a themed public-art exhibition.

The efforts of the BFA Design students did not stop there—in December, they produced “Dashing Through New York,” a window display at 75 Rockefeller Plaza, done in collaboration with RXR Realty. For this project, students used antique sleighs as the foundation for works that depicted New York City culture. Finished products included horse-drawn yellow cabs, NYPD patrol cars, dollar pizza joints and Broadway theaters.

The stunning works that resulted from both of these collaborations can now be revisited at this BFA Design exhibition.
