A forum to discuss interplay between words and images from ancient to modern times. Presentations will address topics such as the rhetoric of the image; “reading” images; resisting or embracing the power of images and words; the word as image in the digital age; mixed-media forms and intermedia texts; the object and its representation in literature (ekphrasis); perception, knowledge and communication; translation, transference and transformation. On Thursday, October 18, William Beckley, keynote speaker, will present his lecture titled “Image Bionk Text: the erotic relationship of language and art.” Presented by the Humanities & Sciences Department.
