Van Alen Season Six visits two border towns in California and Texas to investigate how urban design can increase cross-border collaboration, strengthen social and economic networks in sister cities where the local economies are linked, and mitigate the environmental impact of the construction of border walls in delicate ecosystems. This season of Sessions was produced by Van Alen Institute in partnership with The New Yorker. RSVP here.

Following the film’s premiere, Stephania Taladrid of The New Yorker will moderate a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Merete Mueller; Steven Alvarez, associate professor of English, St. John’s University; and Patricio del Real, assistant professor of history of art and architecture, Harvard University.

SVA MA Design Research graduate students have served as researchers and writers for Van Alen Sessions since 2015. Class of 2019 graduate and SVA Alumni Scholarship recipient, John Kazior, contributed original research to Season Six.

Presented in partnership with SVA MA Design Research, Writing and Criticism, the screening is free and open to the public.
