Some photographs seem to communicate more than others and yet it is not always clear what is articulated, and why a particular image or series of photographs is successful in expressing complex thoughts, ideas and emotions. Although some technical support will be offered, this is neither a technical nor a darkroom course. In this class, students will present work on a weekly basis for critical discussion, aimed at clarifying what characteristics may be inherent in form that contribute to visual literacy. Weekly classroom time will also be concerned with work from photographic history and current trends in photography. Students should have a working knowledge of the camera and a willingness to engage in discussion.
