Taught by a transgender artist and activist, this course offers creative prompts to develop each student's technical abilities and broaden the creative process. Through weekly exercises, group discussions and guided projects, students will develop a coherent series of images in response to the conceptual intersections of queer studies and photography. Complex ideas in gender and sexuality studies will be simplified and students will be guided in the exploration of gender and sexuality in their artworks. Individualized feedback on assignments will be given as well as in the development of a larger project and an artist statement. Students will also be invited to add their favorite artists and artworks to the blog GenderSexPhoto and retain access to the blog on an ongoing basis. This course is designed for students of any level who are interested in exploring gender and sexuality in photography and related media. PREREQUISITE: A working knowledge of your camera and the editing software of your choice.
