The history of illustrative images and the major movements in illustration are the focus of this course. The continuous interrelations between commercial and fine art, as well as thechanging role of the artist's affect on culture will be explored. The course will also help students better understand the differences of metaphor in pictorial content and the universal symbolic vocabulary - where a rose is not just a rose, a ladder is not just a ladder, and a dark horse is far from being just a dark horse.
