This course is for students who have experience in portrait drawing. While drawing a portrait is the central focus, various media will be explored (oils, acrylics and pastels) to enhance the creative process. The use of color will add more structure and an emotional flourish to projects, and students will be encouraged to develop their personal style. Studio work will be complemented with an examination of several masters of this discipline, including German expressionists like Otto Dix, Oskar Kokoschka and George Grosz, as well as Kees van Dongen and Joseph Delaney, and portraits by Francesco Clemente and David Hockney. PREREQUISITE: FIC-2137, Portrait Drawing I, or equivalent. NOTE: Please bring a drawing pad with heavy paper (18x24"), charcoal pencils and compressed charcoal or soft graphite pencils to the first session.
