The focus of this course will be to paint landscapes using techniques from the masters of the 17th through the 20th centuries. Students will learn step-by-step processes to create luminous, light-filled and atmospheric landscape paintings. A variety of methods to create space, form and luminosity will be explored, as well as how to express the color harmony found only in nature. While learning perspective and color theory, you will use photography, drawing, memory and historical references to develop compositions. Discover the "secrets" of Vermeer, Monet and Hopper by learning about glazing, scumbling, color mixing and palette knife painting. If you love to paint, this course is for you.
NOTE: Please bring one tube each of burnt sienna (acrylic paint); burnt umber, burnt sienna and titanium white (water-soluble or traditional oil); canvas; brushes; linseed oil and a palette to the first session.
