Beginning screenwriters will learn how to utilize their craft to more effectively tell a story on film. Weekly assignments will illustrate different components of screenwriting, such as the economic use of dialogue, the communication of story elements through visual means, the development of complex characters, the exposition of background information and the buildup of dramatic momentum. Scenes from well-known films will be analyzed to reveal structural elements of the writing. Students will complete a short screenplay.
