This introduction to the graphic design and visual communication fields will examine how to identify and resolve visual problems for the growing national and international Spanish-speaking markets. We will explore various methods of codifying images and transcribing them to visual systems, keeping in mind the nuances of the Spanish language and the unique demands of the culture. Techniques of visual representation will be addressed and students will develop concepts through exercises that apply the formal elements of design-texture, structure, movement, scale, rhythm, proportion, line and mass. Color, format and typography will also be discussed. Assignments will include illustration, photography, posters, magazines, packaging, book covers, identity and typography. There will be visits to design studios.
NOTE: This is a bilingual course and requires fluency in the Spanish language. Please refer to the ¿Hablas Diseño? courses on the website for a complete listing of course offerings conducted in Spanish. Although not required, it is recommended that students have access to a Macintosh computer and a working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
