Am I eligible for the Arts Abroad Programs?
Our programs are open to students 18 years or older, as well as college graduates and professionals. Some of the programs have prerequisite course work and/or portfolio requirements. Please visit the webpage for your program of interest or contact the Arts Abroad Office at studyabroad@sva.edu
What are the deadlines?
The application deadline for the Action Surf Photography in Rincon program is February 1, 2010. For all remaining Summer Arts Abroad Programs the application deadline is April 1, 2010. Please note in all programs, space is limited and all applications are processed on a rolling admissions basis; the earlier you apply, the more likely a space will be available. We will accept applications after the deadline if the program you are applying for is not already full.
Should the program you have selected be unavailable, you may still apply and be placed on the waiting list. Should a space become available, you will be notified immediately.
Do I need to be fluent in another language to attend?
No, all courses are taught in English.

How will I be contacted regarding the status of my application?
You will receive information via e-mail. Please make sure that your e-mail address is printed legibly on your application. If correspondence by e-mail is not possible for you, please notify our office when you apply, and include the best way to contact you.

Do I need an interview?
If an interview is required, you will be contacted.
Do I need to submit a portfolio?
The following programs require that you submit a portfolio of your work for review:
- Master’s Workshop: Design, History, Theory and Practice in Venice and Rome, (go here for further details.)
- Painting in Barcelona
- Digital Photography in Florence
- Photography Workshop in Shanghai
Applying online: Once a completed application has been received, you will receive information on the submission of your portfolio. A minimum of 12 images is required. Applicants may submit jpegs of their work or a URL address. In addition, the following formats are acceptable: slide, CD or DVD.
Applying by mail: Please submit images with your application. Disks and slides will be returned if accompanied by an SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope).
Do I need to make housing arrangements?
No, all of SVA’s Arts Abroad programs include housing. Accommodations vary; please go to the webpage for your program of interest regarding specific housing information.
Will I receive a record of my grade at the end of the semester?
SVA students can access grades through MySVA. All other participants who wish to receive a transcript of their grades should contact the Arts Abroad Office, via mail, (mail to 209 East 23rd Street, NY NY 10010 or email studyabroad@sva.edu). Please include your name, program attended and the address you wish the transcript be mailed to.
Do I need a passport and/or student visa?
You MUST have a valid passport that will not expire within six months after the scheduled trip date. It is mandatory that you submit a copy of your passport with your program confirmation. Please check to make sure your passport. If your passport has expired or you do not have a passport, you should apply for one immediately. Please visit travel.state.gov/ for more information.
If you are an American citizen, visas are generally not required for travel up to three months in duration. However, requirements change frequently and students should contact the appropriate consulate for up-to-date information. If a visa is needed, please contact our office.
Please note: The program offered in Shanghai requires a student visa.
How much do courses cost?
Tuition for each program can be found here and is listed on the application form. Tuition includes double-occupancy accommodation, transportation for program tours, guided tours, entrance to museums and/or site visits for the program. A welcome reception dinner is also included. Note: For the Masters Workshop in Design and Photography in Arles, single accommodations.
All participants are responsible for their travel arrangements.
Is financial aid available?
Financial Aid may be available for fulltime matriculated SVA students, please contact the Office of Financial Aid (212)592-2030 for further details. Students can pursue outside scholarship search engines such as www.fastweb.com, www.iefa.org, www.collegeanswer.com or www.brokescholar.com for specific requirements and deadlines. Other areas of resources include private education loans. Private education loan products vary depending on the lender.
