These cash awards are intended to cover project expenses, and range from $500 to $2,000, depending on the project budget total. Housing Scholarship Award

Eligible applicants for the Fall 2013 Housing Scholarship with be contacted by email on May 16, 2013. Complete application instructions and guidelines will be provided at that time. The Fall 2013 application deadline will be on May 30, 2013. Finalists will be selected by a review panel. Finalists will be required to attend an interview with the review panel on the morning of June 18, 2013.

The intent of the Alumni Society Housing Scholarship is to provide on-campus housing for a student who otherwise would commute from home. One award will be given, and will cover the cost of on-campus housing for the duration of study at SVA (not to exceed four years). The scholarship does not cover the cost of meals, and all applicants must be able to cover the costs of food and other out-of-pocket living expenses. The scholarship does not cover the required housing deposit and placement fee (the deposit is refundable, the placement fee is non-refundable).

Please note: eligible Housing Scholarship applicants are pre-selected from applicants already accepted to SVA for the Fall semester, based on the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshman (non-transfer student)
  • Home address is within 100 mile radius from zip code 10010
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (as on file with the College Office of Admissions)
  • Demonstrated financial need

The final award decision will be based on a combination of individual merit and financial need, as demonstrated in a personal essay, a portfolio review, letters of recommendation and select finalist interviews – independent of the College’s admissions process. Financial need will be verified by the Office of Financial Aid, but special circumstances may be addressed in the applicant’s personal essay.

The scholarship is renewable after freshman year for each of the subsequent three years of attendance at SVA, not to exceed four full academic years. Annual renewal of the scholarship is dependent on maintaining full-time enrollment and a minimum GPA of 3.0. The intent is to allow the recipient to live on campus during their entire full-time matriculation period at SVA. There is no application fee for the Alumni Society Housing Scholarship.

Complete application guidelines and instructions will be provided to eligible applicants in the email inviting them to apply.
